Meet at Macedonia Airport and take a direct flight to Vienna. Upon arrival, meet your tour escort and begin your festive journey with a first introduction to the Austrian capital. Enjoy a short panoramic tour along the famous Ringstrasse, admiring the city’s illuminated landmarks, before stopping at Schwedenplatz for a walking tour through the hidden corners of Vienna’s historic centre. Discover the historic Greek Quarter and the Greek Orthodox churches of St. George and the Holy Trinity, then continue to the magnificent St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Visit the area of the Imperial Crypt (Kaisergruft/Kapuzinergruft), the Habsburg dynasty’s imperial mausoleum, and the Capuchin Church, before reaching the Vienna State Opera and Kärntner Straße. Along the way, see the Weltmuseum, the Hofburg Imperial Palace, Heroes’ Square and the charming Naglergasse, before finishing at Graben and elegant Kohlmarkt, home to the legendary Demel café and confectionery. Afterwards, transfer to the hotel, check in and overnight in Vienna.
After breakfast, continue your exploration of Vienna with a panoramic city tour. See the Kunst Haus Wien, the magnificent Baroque Belvedere Palace, Karlsplatz with St. Charles Church and the Musikverein, and travel along the famous Ringstrasse surrounding the historic centre. Admire the Vienna State Opera, the Hofburg Imperial Palace, the twin Museums of Art History and Natural History, MuseumsQuartier, Parliament, the Burgtheater, City Hall, the University and the Votive Church. Spend the rest of the day at leisure in Vienna’s festive centre or optionally join us (€20 transfer) for visits to two of the city’s most celebrated landmarks. At UNESCO-listed Schönbrunn Palace, stroll through the magnificent gardens free of charge, visit the former Habsburg summer residence and Imperial Apartments (admission: €40 adults/€31 children), explore its famous Christmas Market with more than 90 stalls, or visit Tiergarten Schönbrunn, the world’s oldest continuously operating zoo (admission: €27 adults/€15.50 children). Continue to Belvedere Palace for an exterior visit and enjoy its atmospheric Christmas Market, with wooden stalls, festive lights, music, Glühwein, roasted chestnuts and Apfelstrudel against the magical backdrop of the palace and its winter gardens. Return to the hotel. After breakfast, enjoy free time to experience Vienna’s city centre in its unique festive atmosphere. Alternatively, join one of two optional full-day excursions. After breakfast, depart for an excursion through the enchanting Vienna Woods, a landscape that inspired composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Strauss and Schubert. See Liechtenstein Castle, one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval castles and the ancestral home of the family that later founded the Principality of Liechtenstein. Continue to the historic Heiligenkreuz Abbey and pass Mayerling, the former imperial hunting lodge associated with the tragic deaths of Crown Prince Rudolf and Baroness Mary Vetsera in 1889. Travel through beautiful countryside to Baden, a former imperial resort and one of Central Europe’s most renowned spa towns, with free time for lunch. Return to Vienna and Rathausplatz, home to the city’s largest and most famous Christmas Market. Enjoy the magical winter atmosphere, go ice skating, warm up with traditional Glühwein or punch, and sample local favourites such as grilled sausages, roasted chestnuts and Kaiserschmarrn. Spend your final evening in Austria’s magnificent capital at your leisure, soaking up the festive atmosphere and creating lasting memories before returning independently to the hotel.
Every journey comes to an end, but the memories remain. After breakfast, enjoy time for one last stroll along Kärntner Straße and pick up some final souvenirs, such as the famous Mozartkugeln chocolates. Afterwards, transfer to Vienna International Airport for the return flight.
